I am who I am.
Your words or actions won’t change a thing.
They’ll hurt me sometimes,
And even cause me pain,
But in the end,
I’ll still be me!
So that’s a gist of what today’s post is all about!
I’ve always loved the idea of not being what people expect me to be. I like people who have a sense of individuality, and I like anything that’s awkward and imperfect because that’s real. 😇
Now don’t get the wrong idea here. It’s not like I’m a stubborn person who never listens to what others say. But you know, I like making choices in my life that help me, to be true to myself. To be beautiful in my own way!
Everywhere we go, we are all bombarded with expectations and images of who we should be and what we should look like. The teens of today (or everyone, really) are facing so much pressure from media and society to the extent where they say they wish they were someone else.
The society will have issues with the way you laugh, the way you dress, your makeup, the way you do your hair, the way you carry yourself, your grades, why this degree and not that, your religion, color of your skin, why you are not married yet, your height, your weight and the list goes on…
You will always be too much of something for someone or too less of something for someone else. 🙁
What do you do? Please them all? But how?
Not everyone will understand your journey, your vision. But that’s ok. The journey is yours. Embrace it. Yourself and your life. That is how you can change the world.
Ignore the ugly voice of doubt inside you. Don’t compare your growth to anyone else’s because improvement takes time and each person experiences it differently.
Be proud of everything that belongs to you. Stand strong for what you believe in. Be your own hero. Do what makes you happy. Speak what you feel.
At the same time don’t forget to apologize for your mistakes like hurting someone unintentionally. But don’t apologize for being who you are.
If you are wrestling with roles that do not fulfil you or if you are pushing yourself into a place where you don’t belong, give up! Before you run into the walls, put on the brakes!
Stop trying to please others. You are allowed to feel proud about yourself for things that might seem silly to other people. Feel proud about your accomplishments; embrace the things that make you unique. No one is you and that is your power!
Not the person that everyone expects you to be. Not the person you are pressurized to be. But yourself. Because only you know who this individual is. So, meet him/her, greet him/her and stick with him/her!
This world loves to destroy people, don’t let you be one of them.
The world will adjust! 💝
To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.
Till next time,
